The supragingival scaler features a triangular blade cross-section with cutting capability on all three sides, allowing efficient scaling. The sickle scaler design includes two cutting edges formed by the junction of the facial surface with two lateral surfaces converging into a pointed tip, making it effective for deposit removal.

The enamel hoe variant features a blade positioned nearly perpendicular to the handle and is used with a pulling motion to clean and refine tooth surfaces. The instrument requires a modified pen grip for proper control and precision during clinical procedures.
